North Randall- Ohio,
Powersports Institute (PSI), a division of Ohio Technical College, held a historic educational event on February 15, 2014. The event was hosted by PSI and spearheaded by Ron Radake, IMBBA Master Bike Builder/ Master Judge, certified IMBBA Motorcycle Instructor and Director of Education and Training at PSI's V-Twin Division. During this event, for the first time, builders and students attended a one day IMBBA judge’s course to become certified in IMBBA's Global Standard system for judging motorcycles in bike show competitions. This course, extensive to say the least, lasting over 9 hours had twenty students including instructors from the PSI staff that participated in this course.
The course was administered by IMBBA President & Founder, Jeff Starke, assisted by Ron Radake with 20 students /builders in attendance. The course was broken down into several sections including, classification of motorcycles, learning the zoom in and out of inspecting the motorcycle for judging, and then scoring the motorcycles using the IMBBA standards of Fit, Form, Function & Safety.
The classroom and workshops, allowed builders/students to work in groups to discuss and overcome the classifications and their challenges and properly place the motorcycle in classes. Followed by, individually scoring of some 15 motorcycles provided by PSI that were laced with inherent challenges that the students/builders needed to discover and adjust the score(s) based on the IMBBA standards.
The course concluded with a test to verify complete comprehension of the course materials. Happily all 20 students passed with 80% or better scores.
An "ASSOCIATE" certificate was issued for the students completing the course. This will allow each recipient to participate in select IMBBA bike show events, upon invitation, as an Associate Judge. During their Associate period they will be asked to judge bikes at one of more shows and have their results reviewed by the Master Judge in charge to determine whether the Associate is fully prepared and ready to be certified.
Once certified the recipient can join the IMBBA International judging team and receive compensation for judging bike shows, which includes air transportation, hotel accommodations and the great experience of judging the world’s top talents in bike building-restoration and customizations.
IMBBA certified Bike Builder Level I, Sheila Cunningham from Nevada, IMBBA's first female builder completed the Judge’s course with a 97% score and became "Judge Certified" . Congratulations to Sheila.
"To see finally, a serious minded group of professionals and students taking the industry to a higher level by their efforts in education and training will by far move the industry to a respectable level among other professional trades and preserve this global standard for future generations is a dream come true". Jeff Starke, IMBBA president.
