Well to begin with, One must become a member of the IMBBA It has a annual membership fee of $35.00 this cost takes care of newsletter that you receive of what's going on in the industry along with certification announcements etc. also includes certification, grading, maintenance of the individual members records. SO, HOW DOES THIS WORK? The IMBBA has developed the points system of determining experience of the individual much like the points system the IMBBA uses to judge motorcycles. Simply put, It doesn't matter who you are, where you came from when it comes to judging a motorcycle, the individuals experience, talents, and creative abilities are being judged and points are assigned in various categories of the class the bike is entered in the show. Therefore, It only makes good sense to certify an individual the same way. The IMBBA has set up a points system to award points to the individual whom can document their experience, education, skills sets, business and accounting practice, years of working within the industry and awards earned in bike shows, promotions, charity events sponsored, equipment certified in, magazine articles you placed in. all these have points assigned that add up to the ultimate total required points for: "ASSOCIATE", "TECHNICIAN", "BIKE BUILDER", "MASTER BIKE BUILDER", "JUDGE", and "MASTER JUDGE". This points system only requires that you document your life spent in the industry, in doing so, IMBBA can credit points in each category of certification. thereby everyone with a certification is on the same level as the next person. It doesn't matter if you only build custom Harleys or restore antiques, or build motocross bikes, drag race, or just service motorcycles. The IMBBA has points assigned for all these experiences that are credited to the individual seeking certification within the level earned within the industry. It is the IMBBA responsibility to document and provide the individuals experience points record that led to certification. This in itself is a record of your experience within the industry as well as your contribution to the Art of motorcycle.
For those individuals that require more years of experience to go to the next level of certification, the IMBBA has correspondence courses that the individual can take and receive additional points towards certification. Plainly put.... The IMBBA wants to assure that the knowledge, years of experience, and skills along with abilities are documented and demonstrated before certifying the individual in a particular level. |
